I was at Day 1 of Heroescon in Charlotte NC today. Not much to speak of. Richard Kiel, Jaws of James Bond fame was in attendance. It was cool seeing him. There wasn’t much in the way of Transformers. In total, I saw maybe fifteen toys. One guy had a few World’s Smallest Transformers for five bucks a pop. Another guy had a TM2 Cybershark, BM Buzzsaw, TM2 Scarem and TM2 Optimus Minor. As far as G1 goes, I saw a beat up Galvatron, Hot Rod, Hoist and Smokescreen–all loose. Another guy had Sixshot, Optimus Prime and Thrust all “mint in box.” I saw a handful of Heroes of Cybertron and a couple of MegaSCF figures–and one guy had a Stampy, MISB. That was it. I saw a LOT Of Dreamwave stuff–I first thought that the convention goers were hungry for the product. Then I realized that the vendors were trying to liquidate all of it. Heh.I found myself upset to see a ton of bootlegged fon productions–Star Trek New Voyages, Grayson, Batman Dead End. I couldn’t believe people were selling DVDs of this stuff. Otherwise, there wasn’t a whole lot to speak of. I picked up a Marvel Visionaries Steve Ditko hardcover and three GI Joe comics I needed out of the dollar bin…I left after a couple of hours. Kind of disappointing. Heroescon used to be the convention on the East Coast. Now it’s probably a distant fourth of fifth.
