On July 14th 2005 I started my diet. I was over four hundred pounds and under the impression that I wasn’t that fat. I could move, run and work like someone at 250 pounds but I knew that my pants size kept creeping up and my back and ankles hurt worse with each passing day. I was wearing size 56 pants and I had to spend $50 – $75 each time I bought a new pair.
How did I start the diet? I kept track of all the foods that I ate on my Diet Blog. I got serious about what I ate and I made a point to put down the controller and go out walking. I worked the late shift and there were nights that I would walk ten miles.
In that time I have probably lost over three hundred pounds. Net loss is currently in the one hundred pound range. At one point, though, the net loss was in the 170 pound range.
Here is the famous shot of the progress from July of 2005 through September of 2006.

September of 2006 I was 255 pounds, which according to my doctor is a fine weight given my broad, stocky build. I was wearing size 38 Jeans, which was incredible to me because prior to my drop below fifty inches I had to buy my pants online or at specialty shops. Being able to go out to Wal-Mart or Target and buy a pair of pants was most gratifying. Today, I have fallen off the wagon. I am 315 pounds and wearing size 46 pants. As large as that is, it is still a far cry from this:
In the past week I have started keeping track of my diet again, on my new diet blog located at BrianKilby.com. I am rededicating myself to losing weight and to working out. While I may never be a famous athlete or body builder, I would still like to be a walking tank of destruction. That suits me.
Keep checking that diet blog. I can always use your support and I might be able to help encourage you, too.
