I was thumbing through an issue of Nintendo Fun Club News here at work and I saw the ad for Taito’s Renegade. I was brought back to my youth and the striking impact this image had on me. I remember staring at the art and throwing myself into the role of the main character, who ostensibly fought punks in the New York subway. I’ve never been on the Subway in New York and I never actually played this game. But after twenty years, I still remember the ad.Over the Christmas break, I’m going to break out Renegade and play it. No, I doubt it will have the impact it would’ve had on me twenty years ago but I’m certain to enjoy it, for thirty seconds at least.
